My job as vice president for strategic communications and economic development in the Arkansas State University System gives me daily opportunities to write all sorts of executive briefings, news releases and letters, but that's actually a small part of my work. The past 19 months with the ASU System have been extraordinary because I'm working with a terrific leadership team on developments at Arkansas State that will transform not only the university, but the state. As both an employee and an alumnus, I couldn't be more excited about our future!
Now and then, I have thoughts to share with an audience of friends and business acquaintances that I've cultivated during my 48 years of living and working in Arkansas. This blog will be my new professional forum because my Facebook posts are mostly social and family in nature and Twitter won't give me enough characters. Some favorite topics will be digital marketing and business trends. I'll likely throw in some thoughts on strategic communications, media and higher education. I continue to live in Little Rock and travel the state in my work for ASU, so I'll occasionally post about what I see in culture and business throughout Arkansas.
I have established some strict, self-imposed ground rules for this blog:
• No reporting — I'm not in the news media anymore. Period.
• No politics — I'm an employee of a public institution, so I'll keep political and election views offline.
• Blog posts are my personal views and don't represent the ASU System or its campuses. It should go without saying that any blog posts appearing here will be written on my personal time.
Thanks for reconnecting with me or connecting for the first time. Much more to come!
